Since 1950, more than 5,000 students have graduated from the College of Nursing. The faculty, staff, students and alumni of the College of Nursing are committed to the collection, restoration, and preservation of memories, documents, and artifacts of our history. To that end, the College of Nursing has established the Legacy Project.
The Legacy Project currently consists of an Archive and Museum for the collection and preservation of historical artifacts and documents. An Oral History Project, which will consist of the memories and recollections of various alumni, faculty, and staff of the College of Nursing. Because pictorial history is also important, we are constructing a Wall of History to display the historical artifacts related to the FSU College of Nursing.
Archive and Museum
The CON Archive & Museum is located in 455 Duxbury Hall. An Archivist is now on staff and working on the accessioning, cataloguing, and preservation of historical CON documents, photographs, and artifacts. These items are either property of the CON or were donated by CON alumni. The Archive & Museum is divided into the College of Nursing Collection, which contains all materials owned by the College, and the General Collection, which consists of donated items. Every donation receives an individual collection name and accession number within the General Collection. Legacy Project staff has been trained by the Archivist in accessioning and preservation techniques.
Oral History
Oral history is the technique of preserving historical information through recorded interviews with participants about past events and ways of life. It is an interactive way to preserve human memories and allow future generations to understand a little of what it was like to live in the past. Through the Oral History Project, we hope to learn more about the lives of former nursing students at FSU, as well as the experiences of the faculty and staff, in their own words.
Wall of History
As a reminder to alumni of where they've been and with whom they shared the journey, and as motivation for current and future nursing students of what they can accomplish, we will display class year photographs and pictures of other noteworthy events during CON's history. The Wall of History will be constructed on the second floor of Duxbury Hall where hundreds of students interact with faculty on a daily basis. neutral colored panels will serve as a striking background for digitally enhanced photos of past graduating classes, FSU events and College of Nursing special activities from the early 1950's to the present day.![]()
