In 2020, the College of Nursing received a three-year, $1.25 million grant from the United Health Foundation to prepare nurse practitioners to address the distinct health needs of individuals who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Dr. Porterfield is the administrator for the Military & Veteran Mental Health Grant which has established a tailored curriculum to improve military and veteran care. Dr. Porterfield has recently been featured in the “Health of Those Who Served Report 2022” for her Hear from the Experts article about the project.
