Dr. Rylan J. Douthett is the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs at the Florida State University College of Nursing. In this role, he provides strategic oversight of curriculum and clinical operations while advancing shared governance across a large prelicensure BSN program. A Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), Dr. Douthett brings expertise in academic program design, curriculum development, program evaluation, and evidence-based teaching and learning. 

Dr. Douthett plays a key leadership role in CCNE accreditation, including successfully leading the BSN program through an on-site evaluation in Spring 2026. His work centers on data-driven decision-making and continuous quality improvement, with a focus on strengthening first-time NCLEX pass rates and overall program performance. 

He has led initiatives to develop and expand strategic clinical partnerships with major health systems, including the launch of FSU’s first Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) in partnership with HCA Florida Capital Hospital. This model strengthens student readiness for practice while advancing academic-practice collaboration. 

Prior to joining Florida State University, Dr. Douthett served in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he developed expertise in psychiatric and medical-surgical nursing and contributed to the training and mentorship of new graduate nurses. 

Dr. Douthett was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to the Florida Health Care Innovation Council in 2024, where he collaborates with state leadership to advance scalable, high-impact healthcare initiatives and steward a $50 million annual budget.
