LeeAnn Barfield, PhD-c, DNP, APRN-BC, CNE, FACHE, is a nationally certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner who has spent her entire 23-year nursing career in the acute care setting. She has worked as a direct patient care nurse, educator, nurse practitioner, and administrator of a large operating room. As a nurse leader, she was an expert in productivity while preserving proficiency and a founding participant in Shared Governance to improve quality care delivery in a large health system; she was also responsible for educating a staff of over 115 using evidence-based practices while maintaining regulatory compliance. As a nurse practitioner, she provided care to complex and critically ill adults in various patient conditions and health care settings. Dr. Barfield teaches courses in the DNP core curriculum and within the acute care nurse practitioner major.

Dr. Barfield’s research interests include complex and critical care in adults, stroke outcomes, using technology and telehealth strategies for patient education to improve health outcomes and increasing rural patients’ access to health care. She is a Ph.D. candidate in nursing at Georgia State University, Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions.
