Amanda Gabster, PhD, MSc, is an epidemiologist and mixed-methods researcher and Postdoctoral Scholar at Florida State University’s Center for Population Sciences for Health Empowerment in the College of Nursing. Her research focuses on HIV prevention, treatment, and long-term health, with particular attention to the social, behavioral, and structural factors that influence engagement in care and health inequities. She uses epidemiologic, qualitative, mixed-methods and community-engaged approaches to generate evidence that can inform interventions and health services.
Dr. Gabster’s current research integrates digital health and implementation-informed intervention development, including WhatsApp-delivered strategies to support antiretroviral therapy adherence, retention in HIV care, psychosocial well-being, and cardiometabolic health among people living with HIV. Her broader research portfolio includes sexually transmitted infections, advanced HIV disease, mental health, intimate partner and gender-based violence, migration, Indigenous health and vaccine effectiveness.
Before joining FSU, Dr. Gabster was a Research Scientist at the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies in Panama, where she led and collaborated on multidisciplinary research with academic institutions, health systems, government agencies, and community organizations. She is also a Level II Researcher in Panama’s National Research System. Dr. Gabster earned her PhD in Epidemiology and MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
