Pre-Nursing Pathway

If you are a current FSU Student and are interested in applying to the Nursing major, the College of Nursing and FSU Career Center have partnered to design a pathway and badge to ensure you are prepared for the application process.

The Pre-Nursing Pathway and Badge is designed to help you understand if nursing aligns with your passion and future career goals, familiarize you with relevant certifications, introduce FSU Career Center resources, and guide students through the nursing school application process.

Earning the Pre-Nursing Badge provides you with the opportunity to engage with current nursing students, faculty, and staff through various College of Nursing events. This engagement will allow you to gain insights and firsthand experiences about the nursing profession, creating a comprehensive roadmap to success. The badge equips you with knowledge and practical insights, ensuring you are well-prepared for the application process and your journey ahead.

To earn the Pre-Nursing Badge, you must complete a series of milestones that offer a comprehensive overview of the nursing profession and facilitate your engagement with the College of Nursing (CON).

• Accomplish one of several options such as joining the Nursing Living Learning Community, participating in the Nursing Engage 100 course or Pre-Health FIG, earning a CNA license, completing CPR training for healthcare providers, volunteering at a healthcare facility for a minimum of 45 hours, or engaging in an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).
• Attend any two events either organized by the Career Center or in partnership with the College of Nursing; this could include workshops, career fairs, liaison appointments, or panel discussions.
• Actively participate in at least five official community engagement events with the CON, informational zoom sessions, open houses, or engage in shadowing at a healthcare facility for a minimum of eight hours.

The FSU College of Nursing Student Ambassadors (referred to as CON Ambassadors externally and Student Ambassadors or Ambassadors internally) are a group of students selected to act as representatives of the College of Nursing. Ambassadors serve as the “face” of the CON at internal events/activities, campus-wide events, and community events. The ambassador program differs from the other student organizations within the CON as it is administered by the staff of the College, and as such students are representative of our whole institution.

The ambassador program operates during the fall and spring terms of each academic year.

Fall

• Applications open in July. Virtual interviews are conducted in early August and students are selected and notified by the beginning of the semester. Ambassador Welcome and Training Session for the new program occur within the first two weeks of classes.
• The Ambassador program begins after the Ambassador Welcome and Training Session.

Spring

• Applications open in October. Virtual interviews conducted in early November and students are selected and notified by the end of November. Ambassador Welcome and Training Session for the new program occur within the first two weeks of classes.
• The Ambassador program begins after the Ambassador Welcome and Training Session.

Summer

• At this time the program will be halted over the summer semester due to the rigor of the student's coursework. Occasionally, fourth-semester active students (who are remaining in Tallahassee for their final semester) and emeritus students may have the opportunity to assist as volunteers with CARE tours, summer tours, and be invited to leadership events. They are not required to participate but are still offered the opportunity should their schedule allow.
